Bike Week 2018 starts next week and here in the Exchange District we have lots going on! With over 100 historic buildings within a 30-block radius the Exchange is one of the most walkable areas in the city. We are filled with unique shops, inspired local restaurants, arts and culture, and it’s such a stunning walk through our area to take it all in. The TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival starts this week and we sat down with Artistic Director Michael Falk to talk about this 11-day celebration of jazz and jazz-related music, and what to look forward to this year. To sum it up, this year there’s more to see than ever before! More free acts on the Cube stage in Old Market Square, more heavy hitters and touring acts offered on the free stage, more ticketed shows as part of the theatre series, and just a wide range of jazz and jazz-inspired acts for the jazz lover as well as newcomers to the style. In the last 13 years, the Exchange District has been a constant creative influence on my life and career, silently supporting and shaping me to become the active living urbanist I am today.  I started my career working in the Silpit Building as an intern at Buffalo Gal Pictures. Alleyways (in the Exchange)

The first Alleyways (in the Exchange) was a huge success! Although the rainy weather brought most of the alleyways indoors it didn’t stop the crowds from poring in to the rain locations and filling the Exchange District with energy and fun. The bottom floor of the Centennial Concert Hall was our rain location for the market and proved to be a cozy spot to house the over 60 vendors. Curated by Lucky Girl Pop Up the market was filled with handmade jewelry, leatherwork, fresh local food, vintage clothing, and unique locally created crafts.
