Historic Places Day in the Exchange

Historic Places Day is July 6, and to celebrate we’re bringing you a blast from The Exchange District BIZ’s past – and reviving three of our old walking tours! Completely free, and for one day only!

 10:00am – Bankers Row

Explore the Financial Hub of Western Canada, from a time when Winnipeg was the richest city of the prairies! Learn about the architectural legacy of our banking halls, and the stories of the people who worked in them.

 12:30pm – Newspaper Row

Extra, extra, read all about it! Learn about the publishing history of Manitoba, including the origins of the Winnipeg Free Press and feuds between rival journalists! Learn about the legal battle that changed the newspaper industry in the 1930s.

 2:30pm – Real to Reel

This Exchange District BIZ tour rolls out how and where Hollywood directors, producers and local film crews have transformed some of the area’s 20-square blocks of heritage buildings into the dusty streets of old Kansas City, early Chicago or present day New York City.
