Alicja Dalecki, owner of Boutique Anya, has transformed an industrial warehouse space into a sophisticated boutique that is filled with natural light and a perfectly curated collection of contemporary minimalist pieces. But unlike many other high-end stores, Boutique Anya boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere where shoppers can relax and feel at ease.
“I want everyone to feel welcome in my boutique,” explains Alicja.
Boutique Anya opened its doors to the public in 2015 after Alicja had recognized a void in the market for high-end boutiques that offered locally manufactured clothing. While she does bring in some items from Europe, Alicja strives to deal with offshore companies as little as possible in an effort to support North American designers.
“I chose the Exchange due to my long history with the area.” Alicja thinks back fondly on the days of her youth when she would spend hours sewing at a studio in the Exchange. “It felt natural for me to come back here.”
Alicja’s design background coupled with her innate ability to recognize beautiful pieces has led to the success of her boutique. “I strive to bring in classic pieces with timeless silhouettes and designs.” Her long list of loyal customers is a testament to her knack for selecting the right pieces, but they come back for more than just the pieces themselves. “I absolutely love engaging with my customers.”
“My inspiration is all over the map. I see the world based on colours, textures and shapes.”
While the job of curating a collection for a boutique may be a daunting task for some, Alijca does this with ease. Through years of working with select vendors she has built strong relationships with designers who brilliantly bring progressive designs to life that are both timeless and fresh. One of Alicja’s personal favourites is a Canadian company called AYRTIGHT. “I’m currently in love with their Crepe Turtleneck that is truly the perfect layering piece. I don’t leave my house without it in the winter!”
As someone who loves to engage with people, Alijca is looking forward to the day that she can safely work with her customers in person again. And if she could pick anyone famous to dress when her shop opens up again, she’d happily style Chloë Sevigny.
