Imagining Intimacy During Isolation – Kathleen Shellrude creates bright and whimsical worlds full of relationship, sparking imagination and memory, building personal hope and coping in times of communal loss.
In MAKE (BELIEVE) FRIENDS; Shellrude’s functional objects are lusciously colourful; their playfulness evokes wonder and fun. In times of longing for visceral companionship and friendship, Shellrude and will discuss noticing that hope and light have emerged in her art themes, finding her path to a life of art, and living by making art.
BIO/MESSAGE
A mixed media artist and experimental ceramicist, Kathleen Shellrude lives and creates on Treaty 1 Territory (Winnipeg). Her artistic career began after a lengthy hospitalization in 2015 which prompted her to use art as a means of processing issues related to a personal history marked by disability, mental illness, homelessness, and addiction.
