The Art Talk on Migration with Winnipeg artists Ekene Emeka Maduka, an immigrant from Nigeria and Glodi Bahati, Congolese-born and raised in Uganda as a refugee, in conversation with Susan Freig, is happening on Friday September 1st, 6 -7 pm at the Video Pool Output, second floor, Artspace, 100 Arthur Street, accessible. Doors open at 5:30 pm with African music and snacks, and cash bar. Art Walk starts at 7:15. The experience of leaving one’s home to settle in a new country is a life altering experience. Art is a vehicle to explore and express memories, the differences between two worlds, and learning and adjusting to a new society with all the complexity that entails. The complexities of Ekene Emeka Maduka and Glodi Bahati’s migration stories and the influence on their personal identities is embedded in their artwork. Expect to be immersed both in the aesthetic and the many layers of meaning in their artwork.
