Wall-to-Wall is teaming up with sākihiwē festival, Urban Shaman Contemporary Aboriginal Art Gallery, and the Winning Art Gallery to launch and celebrate a collaborative music and art video – kindred.
kindred will feature youth from #walltowallwpg’s dance and vocal performance mentorship, with a portion of the video produced by mentored youth and BNB Studios. This weaved together video will include performances by Eekwol and T-Rhyme presented by sākihiwē festival and Bret Parenteau presented by Urban Shaman.

“Zhiishiibi-Zhiibiing (pronounced “ve-sheep see-be”) which is the Ojibwe translation for ‘Duck River’ which today is known as Duck Bay Reservation. All recordings, and found sounds were taken Summer 2019 in Duck Bay, Manitoba. The album which will be performed in full and contains stories in sound. The listener will be visiting the wharf, whitefish vessels and neighbouring marshes. Hearing the tale of Father Darveau O.M.I. (seen as a windigo) mysteriously killed and found on shore. As well as joining local Metis hunters on the northwest shore of Lake Pittowinipik (Winnipegosis). The album was released by Quebec label Absurd Exposition, August 30th, 2020.”
Bio:
“Bret Parenteau is a sound artist from Winnipeg, MB, Treaty 1 Territory and Historic Métis Nation Homeland. Under the initials B.P., Parenteau has been crafting his formula of noise, field recording, sound collage & tape manipulation for the past few years. Parenteau has released a steady amount of work across Canada, US & internationally. He runs a cassette label Makade (Black) Star (formerly Male Activity from 2013-2019). Parenteau’s artwork / audio work has recently been a part of local galleries Urban Shaman Contemporary Aboriginal Art Gallery & Platform Centre. Bret is currently the Marketing Coordinator at ARP Books.”
