Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre Exhibit

Opening: Friday, April 5, 2019 7-9 pm
Exhibit runs April 2-26, 2019
266 McDermot Avenue

The Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre (RMTC) is a vibrant and beloved cultural institution located in downtown Winnipeg near Main Street. RMTC is notable for being Canada’s first English language regional theatre, becoming a model for regional theatres across North America. Join us for an exhibition that explores the history and design of the building.

The 785-seat theatre was designed by local architectural firm Waisman Ross Blankstein Coop Gillmor Hanna, now Number Ten Architectural Group. The principal designer was Allan Waisman and the project architect was Robert Kirby. Eddie Gilbert, the artistic director of the theatre company, worked closely with the design team.

This exhibition was made possible with support from the Manitoba Association of Architects and The Winnipeg Foundation.

Accessibility: The Winnipeg Architecture Foundation is not located in a fully accessible building. The public entrance at 266 McDermot has seven steps in the lobby. A portion of the exhibit is displayed in the lobby.
