Schedule for the Exchange District:
Thursday, May 12th, 7pm at the Rachel Browne Theatre – Hive Mind or Internet Mob?
Today, the web can bring people together, building online communities and mobilizing social movements, or create targets in a click, releasing a pack of online hounds. Spur welcomes a panel of pioneering women who have taken the power of game design and the potential of online communities to develop projects that challenge convention and provide fresh voices to the industry.
This event will include a performance by Spur Poet-in-Residence Chimwemwe Undi.
Friday, May 13th, 12pm at the Winnipeg Free Press Cafe – Books That Spur: Canadian Pacific and the Golden Age of Travel
In this sumptuously illustrated history of a company whose story is integral to the Golden Age of Travel, Barry Lane recounts the history of Canadian Pacific, from the construction of the transcontinental railway to the development of the hotels and the building of the shipping line that linked Canada to the rest of the world.
This event will include a performance by Spur Poet-in-Residence Mason Kanne.
Saturday, May 14th, 5pm at Winnipeg Film Group’s Cinematheque – Transgender Parents at Cinematheque
Rémy Huberdeau’s documentary, Transgender Parents, shares multiple stories of real-life trans parents in Canada, revealing their cultural diversity and socio-economic challenges with a nuance that has yet to enter the mainstream cultural conversation about transgender people who are parents. The film premiered last December on the Canadian Broadcasting Company’s Documentary Channel, and screened on tour across Europe in October 2015. In partnership with Winnipeg’s Reel Pride Festival, Spur will host a talkback with director Rémy Huberdeau following the film. Transgender Parents has been rated PG (not recommended for young children, mature theme)
