Spur Winnipeg 2017

May 5, 2017 @ 9:00 pm - May 6, 2017 @ 1:00 am

As we head into Canada’s sesquicentennial, we tackle the issue of nation building with a particular look at what are we willing to risk to make a more just and equitable country. Subjects we’ll be looking at include Geopolitics, Environment, Energy, Food, Health, Culture, Economics, Security and Education.

Presented by the Exchange District BIZ, Spur will host the third annual Spur bike jam, the official launch of the Rainbow Trout Music Festival’s summer programming. Beginning in Omand Park (1430 Portage Ave), cyclists of all shapes and sizes will embark on a group ride with lively music on portable stereos atop bikes equipped with festive lights. The trip will be punctuated by the occasional surprise pit-stop for a dance party, a quick snack, or an unexpected cameo appearance. This is a free and public event where participants will be encouraged to donate what-they-can to their hosts for the evening, the Rainbow Trout Music Festival.

The event features a free pop up concert at the Cube in Old Market Square. Hitting the stage is Micah Erenberg – a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter and frontman extraordinaire from Matlock, MB. His full disclosure style of writing makes for captivating material that varies from poetically clever to gracefully heartbreaking. Erenberg continually finds ways to reinvent the art of songwriting by expressing a mixture of honest lyrics, mesmerizing melodies and distinctive musical arrangements.
