Title: These Tiny Helpers Artist: Dee Barsy Dates: September 6 to October 26, 2019 Opening reception: September 6 at 8-11pm (open for viewing earlier for First Friday at 5pm) Statement For this solo exhibition, Dee has transformed the gallery space into an immersive mural that features her unique visual language. This language is distinguished by her iconic blue background, her bright and contrasting colour palette, and her rhythmic lines and shapes. For this site-specific artwork, Dee has created abstract representations of various arachnids and insects that are native to the Manitoba area. FIRST FRIDAYS in the EXCHANGE was launched on July 2, 2010. Based on artist Sue Gordon's experience of the First Fridays event in Kansas City, she and artist Karen Schulz introduced the concept to Exchange artists, Galleries and shops, got a great response, and the event has been growing ever since! First Fridays in the Exchange is dedicated to bringing together artists, artist run centers, galleries, businesses & the public for a greater understanding,appreciation & promotion of the arts & the further development of a vital Exchange Area community.
