Together\, they bring experience from leading Canadian orchestras like the Winnipeg Symphony and Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal\, and have performed at renowned festivals such as Tanglewood and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. \nRooted in a love for chamber music\, the group brings brass to schools\, small communities\, and new listeners. With French-speaking members\, they also connect with Winnipeg’s Francophone audience\, offering bilingual programming and educational outreach. \nThrough masterclasses\, performances\, and workshops\, Peg-City Brass strives to keep brass music vibrant and accessible in Manitoba’s musical landscape.

(Rain location: 201 Concourse). \nAn insatiable desire to write and perform music has always driven Doug McArthur\, a prairie-born singer-songwriter with a voice that stops people in their tracks and hooks that refuse to leave your head. Over the years\, he’s been the frontman and creative force behind rock bands Broken Halo and Soapbox\, written and released two albums and an EP\, and toured Western Canada\, playing everything from festival stages to packed headlining shows. \nWhen YouTuber samuraiguitarist released a cover of “Pinball Wizard” featuring Doug on vocals\, it didn’t just turn heads—it caught the attention of The Who themselves. He was invited to sing backing vocals live with rock legends Heart and has shared the stage with The Trews\, The Tea Party\, Sum 41\, ZZ Top\, and more. His band Broken Halo won the Power 97 Class of 2010 with their single “Rooftops.” \nDoug is now performing as a solo act. He released his debut solo single\, Hermit Phase\, produced by Rusty Robot (Waking Eyes\, Imaginary Cities) and its follow-up\, Draw The Line\, in 2023. Next came an EP in 2024\, featuring a remix of Draw The Line produced by Lana Winterhalt and a live version of Magic recorded at Fairy Ring Studios (Slow Spirit).

With influences ranging from Muse to The Tragically Hip (with John Fogerty somewhere in between)\, this Winnipeg-born group started in 2014 as a basement cover band and grew into a powerhouse of original rock. \nAfter years of gigs—from backyard BBQs to full-blown galas—and a pandemic-fueled writing spree\, they ditched the covers and cracked open a Pandora’s box of riffs\, hooks\, and unexpected lyrical turns. Their debut album Through the Lens\, dropping September 20\, 2025\, is a genre-blending journey recorded at Winnipeg’s iconic Private Ear Studios. \nExpect booming vocals (Jay)\, ripping solos (Travis)\, thunderous bass (Terry)\, and relentless drums (Ryan). Please bring your own chair if possible\, as seating is limited. \nWe are pleased to announce our August speaker: Daniel Hidalgo! \nDaniel is a single father and foster parent. He is the lifetime product of the child welfare system. Currently\, Daniel is employed as an action therapist\, where his focus is on the advocacy and support of Indigenous kids in care. He has always been employed in the human/social services field. He was also briefly a fire paramedic for the city of Winnipeg and has been actively involved in many of our city’s altruistic groups in a leadership capacity as a volunteer captain/medic. These groups include Mama Bear Clan\, OPK\, and Drag the Red. He is the Vice President of the Manitoba Harm Reduction Network. \nVery recently\, Daniel created his own grassroots non-profit volunteer group called “CommUNITY204”. The group is composed almost entirely of youth and adults who have been\, or currently are\, in CFS. Their goal is helping the marginalized community with access to basic human needs (water\, appropriate clothing\, hygiene products and food)\, harm reduction/minimization\, assurance of safety (through crisis intervention\, peacekeeping\, safe walks\, and search parties)\, Collaboration with other groups with the same mission (Thunderbirdz\, OPK\, Anishiative\, MBC\, BLM) relocation of residency\, and furniture donations/pick-ups. DESCRIPTION:Part of the 2025 Scott Leroux Fund for Media Arts Exploration – Video Pool Media Arts Centre is pleased to announce the one-night-only public presentation soul analog by Anthony Valade\, recipient of the 2025 Scott Leroux Fund for Media Arts Exploration. The presentation will open with an artist talk\, presented in partnership with First Fridays. \nDate: September 5\, 2025\nTime: 6:00 – 9 PM\nArtist Talk: 6:00 – 7 PM\nLocation: The Output (2nd Floor\, 100 Arthur St.) \nDuring his residency\, he began by hunting down and watching the original tutorial and introductory videos for the legacy video mixers. He then spent the majority of his time exploring the feedback loop effects of each mixer and how those loops were affected by sending the signals back into the mix using different styles and eras of video cameras and television monitors. Toward the end of each day\, he would experiment with creating motion-activated effects by using parts of his body to further manipulate the feedback loop\, often resulting in fantastic\, unexpected visuals. He considers these explorations to have been very successful and plans to integrate his new findings into future projects. \nSoul-Analog is an interactive art installation experiment/artist talk that integrates vintage/retro video technologies and cameras in tandem with human interaction to create active motion murals of the “Soul” in the image presented. \nIn between viewings\, there will be live Analog VJ/video art demonstrations. \nPlease join us in VP’s Output Venue for an intimate opportunity to explore Anthony Valade’s research on the analogue video system.
