Explore the Creative Corners of 290 McDermot

Step inside this century-old building, now home to artists, makers, and innovators.

Nestled between the Wilson Building and the Daylight Building at 290 McDermot Ave is the Glengarry building, a seven-storey landmark that’s been part of Winnipeg’s skyline since 1910. Designed by local architect J.H.G. Russell and commissioned by renowned railway builder John Duncan McArthur, the Glengarry Building was constructed during the height of the city’s early 20th-century boom. Designed with a smooth cut Tyndall stone façade, the simple neo-classical design provides a balanced look that speaks to the prosperity of the area. Its first tenants were manufacturers, specialty toy and novelty distributors, and wholesalers of everything from tobacco to silks and ribbons.

Over a century later, the building continues to thrive as a creative hub, housing a diverse mix of businesses, including galleries, tattoo shops, and local makers.

Step inside 290 McDermot and discover the stories and people keeping its rich history alive today.
