Five Ways to Exchange – September 29, 2017

Every Friday we’ll be letting you know about a few choice happenings in the Exchange! If you have an idea for something to be featured, email nicholas@exchangedistrict.org with “Five Ways to Exchange” in the subject line.

THE EVENT

Nuit Blanche

Practically Christmas for artists and art lovers, the entire Exchange will come alive this Saturday from 6pm until the wee hours of Sunday morning. A completely free event, this is your chance to experience one-of-a-kind video installations, dance and musical performances, artists working in their spaces, and more than a few surprises. Into getting an early start? The Luckygirl Pop-Up event takes place in Old Market Square noon-nuit. Put your dad’s old dress shirt on backwards (in case you need a painting smock) and we’ll see you Saturday for a bon nuit blanche!

Visit nuitblanchewinnipeg.ca for more information.

THE STAGE

The Princess and the Goblin @ The Centennial Concert Hall

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet kicks off its season with renowned choreographer Twyla Tharp’s take on The Princess and The Goblin, adapted from Victorian novelist George MacDonald’s fantasy tale. Featuring exciting costumes, ingenious staging and incredible choreography, this is a show the entire family will be in awe of. Don’t miss your final three chances – tonight and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday’s 2pm matinee – to catch this new take on a magical classic!

THE DRINK

2.5 Year Anniversary at 441 Main

When you’re too busy having a great time, you sometimes forget to mark down the special occasions. The fine people at 441 Main aren’t letting their second anniversary go without a celebration, and they’re bringing Rolling Stone-endorsed Denver super producer Wuki to town this Saturday night! Swing by this mixology-focused bar for a guaranteed good time and celebrate with the 441 crew in style.

THE LOOK

Callisto Couture

For over a decade, Elizabeth Joyce has been using elements of the past to inspire contemporary corset designs, and people are taking notice – with the Asper Foundation’s Gail Asper noting that she feels “glamorous” wearing hers! Treat yourself to that timeless look, crafted just for you.

THE DISPLAY

Inaugural Exhibition @ Finch Gallery Workspace

After a soft opening on September 1, the Exchange’s latest gallery put the work of 13 diverse artists on display for the world to enjoy. From Dany Reede’s creative chaos to Sue Gordon’s prairie nostalgia, you’ll find everything Winnipeg art stands for (and more) at Finch Gallery, located at 74 Princess Street. Remember – this collection is only on until October 1, when a new set of artists will grace the gallery’s gorgeous walls.
